The name of the HC of J&K is Changed to 'The HC of J&K and Ladakh'

According to the official order, the “common Court of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and the Union Territory of Ladakh” is renamed as the “High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh”

The Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Removal of Difficulties) order, 2021 has been signed by Shri. Ram Nath Govind, the president of India to bring this change to effect. Also, the Department of Justice in the Law Ministry has notified in an official order the previous day.

The order also stated that the Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the lieutenant governor of a Union Territory of Ladakh, and also the Chief Justice of the High Court has also given their approval for the new name proposed.

Also, it is important to know that the establishment of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court was based on the Jammu and Kashmir Government order number 1 which was issued in the year 1928 on 26th March. And in addition to this, the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019 was mainly enacted to provide for the reorganization of the State of Jammu and Kashmir to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and the Union Territory of Ladakh.

The High Court of Jammu and Kashmir will be the common High Court for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and also for the Union Territory of Ladakh according to Section 75, clause (a) of sub-section 1 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019.
