The SC on Tuesday issued notice on a petition seeking to terminate the 26-week pregnancy of a 14-year-old girl.
A three-judge bench of CJI Bobde, Justice AS Bopanna and Justice V Ramasubramanian has directed the Medical Board to submit its report in a week. Advocate VK Biju, appearing for the victim girl during the hearing, requested the court to direct the medical board to look into the matter. She also said that the matter should be heard soon, as the girl is in her 26th week of pregnancy.
The court, however, issued notice to the Government of India and the Haryana State Government seeking a reply within a week. The petitioners also submitted that Since the accused victim is a direct blood relative of the petitioner, the child born may have mental and physical abnormalities and therefore should be allowed to terminate the pregnancy.
