JOB POST: Young Professional (Legal) at DGFT, Ministry of Commerce & Industry [₹70,000/Month]: Apply by July 30

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, has invited applications for the engagement of Young Professionals in the Legal discipline at its New Delhi office. Eligible candidates with an LLB/LLM and the prescribed postgraduate diploma may apply by July 30, 2026.

About DGFT

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) functions under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India. It formulates, implements and monitors India’s Foreign Trade Policy, which provides the policy and strategic framework for promoting exports and trade.

The Directorate also handles matters relating to multilateral and bilateral commercial relations, Special Economic Zones, state trading, export promotion, trade facilitation and the development and regulation of certain export-oriented industries and commodities.

About the Recruitment

DGFT is inviting applications from eligible candidates for engagement as Young Professionals in its various divisions during 2026. This post focuses exclusively on recruitment under the Legal discipline.

Name of the Position

Young Professional – Legal

Educational Qualification

Candidates applying under the Legal discipline must possess the following qualifications:

  • LLM or LLB; and
  • Postgraduate Diploma in any legal subject.

Experience Required

Applicants must have a minimum of one year of post-qualification experience in the relevant field.

Candidates must also possess proficiency in computer skills.

Age Limit

Candidates must be below 35 years of age as on July 1, 2026.

Remuneration

The selected Young Professional will receive a consolidated remuneration of ₹70,000 per month, subject to the deduction of Professional Tax and TDS, as applicable.

No other allowance or facility will be provided in addition to the consolidated remuneration.

Place of Engagement

Directorate General of Foreign Trade, Vanijya Bhawan, New Delhi.

Selected candidates may also be required to travel to any place in India. During official tours, TA/DA will be admissible at the rates applicable to an Assistant Section Officer of the Central Government.

Duration of Engagement

The engagement will initially be for a period of one year and may be extended for a maximum period of three years.

No further extension will be permissible after the completion of three years. The engagement will be purely temporary and will not confer any right or claim for subsequent employment with DGFT or any other government department.

Working Hours

The normal working hours will be from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM on working days, including a half-hour lunch break.

Depending upon work requirements, the Young Professional may be required to work beyond office hours or attend the office on Saturdays, Sundays and other holidays.

Leave

The Young Professional will be eligible for 1.5 days of leave for each completed month during the engagement period, subject to prior written approval from the controlling officer.

Unavailed leave cannot be carried forward to the following year. Women Young Professionals may be eligible for maternity leave in accordance with the applicable provisions of the Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Act, 2017.

Important Terms and Conditions

  • The engagement is subject to verification of educational qualification and experience documents.
  • Submission of false or incorrect information may result in immediate termination and appropriate action under the applicable rules.
  • The selected candidate must maintain confidentiality regarding all official information, records, documents, software and communications accessed during the engagement.
  • The candidate must maintain high standards of integrity, confidentiality, conduct and dedication while discharging official duties.
  • The selected candidate must submit a police verification report and a medical-cum-fitness certificate before engagement.
  • Either DGFT or the Young Professional may terminate the engagement by providing 30 days’ notice or pay in lieu of the notice period, as applicable.
  • The selected candidate will be required to execute a Non-Disclosure Agreement and a Non-Compete Agreement incorporating a cooling-off period on ₹10 stamp paper at the time of joining.
