Case Background

Mr. Aditya Dhar filed a suit seeking injunctive and other reliefs against the Defendants in relation to various defamatory, false and derogatory remarks made by Defendant No. 1 (Santosh Kumar) against the Plaintiff during a recorded press meet (“said Press Meet”), published by Defendant No. 2 on the social media platform, ‘YouTube’.

Circulation Across Platforms

The clips/extracts of the said Press Meet, during the course of which the defamatory statements were made, have been circulated on and are available on various mediums including social media platforms owned/managed/administered/operated by Defendant Nos. 3 (Google LLC), 4 (Meta Platforms, Inc.), 5 (Reddit, Inc.), 6 (“X”), including Defendant No. 7 (Ashok Kumar / John Doe).

Interim Relief

When the matter was taken up for hearing for urgent ad-interim reliefs on April 8, 2026, before the bench of the Hon’ble Justice Mr. Arif S. Doctor, the Hon’ble Court was pleased to restrain Defendant No. 1 from calling the Plaintiff a thief (‘chor’) or making allegations of a similar nature including that of theft, until the next date of hearing.

Subsequent Proceedings

The matter was subsequently listed on April 30, 2026, before the bench of the Hon’ble Justice Mr. Arif S. Doctor, at which time Defendant No. 1 gave an undertaking that he will not make such defamatory statements in the future and tendered an apology for making the defamatory statements during the said Press Meet.

Outcome

Accordingly, the Interim Application and the Suit were disposed of in terms of the aforesaid arrangement.
