Dharmashastra National Law University, Jabalpur, formally commenced the academic session for its newly admitted B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) and LL.M. students through the Orientation-cum-Induction Programme 2026.
About the Orientation Programme
Dharmashastra National Law University (DNLU), Jabalpur, formally commenced its new academic session for the B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) and LL.M. programmes with the Orientation-cum-Induction Programme 2026.
The programme was organised on the University campus for the newly admitted Batch of 2026 under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Manoj Kumar Sinha, Vice Chancellor, DNLU Jabalpur.
The event began with a Welcome Address by Dr. Praveen Tripathi, Registrar, who formally welcomed the incoming students to the University and introduced them to the academic community of DNLU.
Justice Deepak Khot Delivers Keynote Address
The keynote address was delivered by Hon’ble Shri Justice Deepak Khot, Judge, High Court of Madhya Pradesh, who attended the programme as the Chief Guest.
Addressing the newly admitted students, Justice Khot reflected on the true meaning of studying law. Drawing upon Karl Llewellyn’s classic work The Bramble Bush, he described legal education as an experience that initially disorients students but ultimately sharpens their understanding and analytical abilities.
Justice Khot emphasised that learning law is not merely about memorising statutory provisions. Instead, it involves developing the craft of reasoning, legal method and persuasive argumentation.
He advised students to always “go to the source” by reading statutes and judicial decisions themselves rather than depending exclusively on second-hand summaries.
Justice Khot also encouraged the students to write clearly, argue with integrity, participate actively in moot court competitions and engage with legal aid clinics to understand the practical and social purpose of law.
He concluded his address by welcoming the students to the study of law and wishing them “the courage to be beginners.”
Faculty Members Introduced to the New Batch
Following the keynote address, the faculty members of Dharmashastra National Law University were introduced to the incoming batch.
The newly admitted students also shared their thoughts and experiences regarding their admission to DNLU and the beginning of their legal education.
The inaugural segment of the Orientation-cum-Induction Programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks proposed by Prof. (Dr.) Shailesh N. Hadli, Professor of Law.
Students Briefed About Academic and Examination Processes
As part of the orientation programme, Dr. Gargi Chakrabarti, Dean of Faculty and Controller of Examinations, briefed the students about the University’s academic structure and examination processes.
The session provided the new students with an understanding of the academic requirements, evaluation procedures and institutional processes that they would be required to follow during their programmes.
Sessions on Hostel, Attendance and Leave Rules
The programme also included sessions intended to familiarise students with the rules and responsibilities associated with campus life.
Dr. Deeplaxmi Chile, Assistant Professor and Warden, conducted a session on hostel and campus rules.
A separate session on attendance requirements and leave provisions was conducted by Dr. Isha Wadhwa, Assistant Professor.
These sessions informed students about the standards of discipline, attendance requirements and institutional procedures applicable at the University.
Interactive Session on Being an NLU Student
An interactive session titled “What It Means to Be an NLUite?” was conducted by Dr. Animesh Jha, Assistant Dean of Student Welfare.
The session engaged the incoming students in a discussion on the values, responsibilities and expectations associated with student life at a National Law University.
It also introduced students to the broader academic and institutional culture of DNLU and encouraged them to participate meaningfully in University activities.
Dr. Ruchira Chaturvedi, Assistant Professor, served as the master of ceremonies for the programme.
DNLU Jabalpur Commences New Academic Session
Through the Orientation-cum-Induction Programme 2026, Dharmashastra National Law University, Jabalpur, formally welcomed the Batch of 2026 and commenced the new academic session for its B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) and LL.M. programmes.
