About IILM Trial Advocacy Competition 2026
IILM School of Law, IILM University, Gurugram is organising the 1st Edition of the IILM Trial Advocacy Competition, 2026, its flagship trial advocacy event, from September 24 to 26, 2026 at the IILM University campus, Gurugram.
The competition seeks to provide participants with an immersive courtroom experience by simulating criminal trial proceedings. It is designed to enable participants to develop practical litigation skills while engaging with contemporary issues in criminal law.
Theme
The inaugural edition of the competition is centred on the theme:
“Domestic Violence and Abetment of Suicide: Intersection of Criminal Liability, Victim Protection, and Constitutional Safeguards.”
The Trial Proposition presents participants with complex questions involving criminal liability, evidentiary appreciation, constitutional safeguards, victim protection, and procedural fairness.
Teams will be required to analyse intricate factual and legal issues while demonstrating excellence in courtroom advocacy, witness examination, and legal reasoning before a panel comprising members of the judiciary, legal practitioners, and academicians.
Mode of Competition
The 1st IILM Trial Advocacy Competition 2026 will be conducted in offline mode at the IILM University campus, Gurugram.
Competition Format and Structure
The competition will comprise the following stages:
- Preliminary Round
- Quarter-Finals
- Semi-Finals
- Final Round
- Researcher’s Test
Participants will undertake a complete criminal trial simulation involving:
- Opening statements
- Examination-in-chief
- Cross-examination
- Re-examination
- Evidentiary objections
- Final oral arguments

Participants are advised to refer to the Rule Book for detailed timelines and submission requirements.
Registration Fee
- Without Accommodation: INR 4,000 per team
- With Accommodation: INR 7,000 per team
Registration Procedure
Interested teams are required to complete the Registration Form and submit all required documents in accordance with the procedure specified in the Competition Brochure.
Participants should carefully go through the Competition Brochure and Rule Book before completing the registration process.
