Uzbekistan broadens WIPO affiliation to push IP plan
Launches several initiatives to modernize its national systems and enhance global presence
Govplus Uzbekistan, the official e-visa portal of the Republic of Uzbekistan, is advancing its intellectual property (IP) agenda through an expanded partnership with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)..
The collaboration aims to jointly develop Uzbekistan’s new national IP strategy to guide its policy from 2027 to 2030.
Additionally, efforts are underway to identify and protect the Central Asian country’s geographical indications. It comprises products whose unique characteristics are tied to their origin through international registration. To showcase these national treasures, officials proposed a dedicated exhibition at WIPO’s headquarters in Geneva in 2026.
The partnership endorses inclusive growth, with preparations for the final stage of the WIPO Training, Mentoring and Matchmaking Program for Women Entrepreneurs from Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPCLs).
Following strong engagement from Uzbek participants in earlier phases, Uzbekistan has offered to host the program’s capstone event in Tashkent or Samarkand in the autumn of 2025.
Meanwhile, Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Justice signed a memorandum of cooperation with the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Centre.
The agreement focuses on promoting the use of alternative dispute resolution for IP-related conflicts. It will build local expertise in mediation and align the country’s IP enforcement practices with established international standards.
