The global law firm, Squire Patton Boggs, has strengthened its Financial Services Practice Group in Dubai with the appointment of Joywin Mathew as Partner. Mathew joins the firm from DLA Piper, where he worked across Singapore, London, and Dubai.

Jim Barresi, Global Head of the Financial Services Practice Group, said,

“We warmly welcome Joywin to the firm. He is an accomplished international finance lawyer with nearly two decades of experience in structured finance, debt finance, and debt capital markets. Having worked in London, Singapore, and most recently the UAE, he is well positioned to help grow our business globally and especially across the Middle East, a region of increasing importance in the financial world, and particularly of interest to alternative capital sources and many of our US-based private credit funds clients.”

Ranajoy Basu, Global Head of Structured Finance, added,

“We are absolutely delighted to have Joywin in our team. His extensive technical knowledge and reputation in debt capital markets, sustainable finance, securitisations, structured debt, including CLOs and fund finance, will add significant firepower to our already strong global team. Expanding our capabilities in the Middle East and US is a key priority for the firm, and Joywin will be instrumental in helping us achieve our ambitious goals for the practice. His broad finance experience complements our capabilities in private credit, leveraged finance, capital markets, real estate and special situations.”

Mathew advises investment funds, private credit funds, sovereign governments, multinational corporates, financial institutions, and alternative credit providers on a wide range of public and private international debt transactions. He is also an industry-recognised expert in blue finance and climate finance, serving on the UN Global Compact’s Ocean Investment Protocol Advisory Board and the Legal Experts Committee of the Centre for Sustainable Development, established by the University of Cambridge and the Commonwealth Secretariat. He is additionally a member of the Advisory Board of the Blue Bond Accelerator (BBA) under the Ocean Risk Resilience Action Alliance (ORRAA).

Mathew began his career at White & Case LLP, with stints in London and Singapore and secondments at Deutsche Bank and Citigroup, before joining DLA Piper in 2013.

Commenting on his move, Joywin Mathew said,

“Squire Patton Boggs stands out as a true powerhouse in financial legal services. The firm’s strategic vision, global footprint, and deep bench make it an ideal choice for clients seeking a trusted advisor and strategic partner for their business needs.”

His appointment is part of the firm’s strategic expansion of the Financial Services Practice, which has added more than a dozen senior professionals over the past year, including partners in Dallas, New York, London, Washington DC, and Cincinnati.
