Rajya Sabha Passes Bill to Regularize Unauthorized Colonies in Delhi

The Rajya Sabha has recently passed the National Capital Territory of Delhi Laws (Special Provisions) Second (Amendment) Bill, 2021. This Act aims to regularise unauthorized colonies in Delhi. This Bill also sought to extend the Delhi Laws (Special Provisions) Second Act which was passed in 2011. Since the validity of the 2011 Act was to expire on the 31st of December 2020, the government decided to extend the operation of the 2011 Act as the objectives of the act were yet to be achieved. This bill extended the Act for three years from January 1, 2021, to 31 December 2023.

All the 14 members who spoke during the discussion on this Bill expressed their support for the Bill since it was to protect and shelter the poor people. The members also made a unanimous request to the Government to speed up regularization, and allotment of housing units for the slum dwellers.
