NLS 25% reservation passed by Karnataka assembly

Posted on March 29, 2020 By Legal 60

The Karnataka Assembly has passed the contested amendment to the NLSIU Bangalore establishing act to create a 25% reservation for students resident in the state.

Journalist Mathang Seshagiri had first tweeted the news late yesterday:

Karnataka Assembly passes NLSIU (Amendment) Bill provisioning 25% reservation for local students (those who have studied in the state for 10 years). Surprising that @JCMBJP & @krishnabgowda did not push for SC/ST reservation at the institute. https://t.co/zS6qoXvGPV

NLSIU sources with knowledge of the bill have confirmed the development to us.

Despite some lobbying by local lawyers for 50% reservation, the state government appears to have eventually stuck to its idea of only reserving 25% for residents from the state.
