Nishith Desai Associates’ Disputes Head Vyapak Desai to Exit and Establish Own Chambers

Vyapak Desai, Disputes Head at Nishith Desai Associates, is set to leave the firm to establish his own independent law chambers. In his new role, he will focus on providing strategic legal advice and oral advocacy for complex cross-border litigations and arbitrations.

Desai is a 2000 graduate of Gujarat University and also holds an LLM in Corporate Laws from the same university. With nearly two and a half decades of experience, he has been a pioneer in India’s international arbitration space. Known for his clear, concise, and commercially sound advice, he specialises in litigation and arbitration — both domestic and international — including Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT) disputes within the financial services, TMT, and infrastructure sectors.

Desai has been associated with Nishith Desai Associates for the last two decades, where he launched and led the International Disputes & Investigations Practice, including the White-Collar Crime Practice. Earlier, he also headed the Capital Markets & Securities Law Practice as part of the firm’s corporate (M&A/PE) transactions group.

Prior to joining Nishith Desai Associates, he spent five years with law firm Singhi & Co in Ahmedabad and Mumbai.

On Desai’s exit, Nishith Desai, Founder of Nishith Desai Associates, said:

“We are deeply grateful to Vyapak for his 20 years of dedicated service to our firm. It has been a true pleasure working alongside him. As he now chooses to explore a counsel practice, we fully support his decision and wish him every success in this new chapter. Our relationship with Vyapak is one built to last—a lifelong bond that will continue well beyond formal roles.”

Recently, Alipak Banerjee also exited the firm to launch an independent disputes practice and disputes chamber. Banerjee was associated with Nishith Desai Associates for nearly 12 years and headed the firm’s Dispute Resolution Practice in New Delhi.
