Motion Picture Association demands Meta stop using PG-13 for Instagram teen account content
Asks the tech giant to immediately and permanently disassociate its artificial intelligence tools from the rating system
On behalf of the Motion Picture Association (MPA), a lawyer has sent a cease-and-desist note to Meta, demanding that it stop referring to content shown to teen accounts on Instagram as ‘guided by PG-13 ratings.’ The note added that it was misleading and could erode trust in its system for movie ratings.
It asked the tech giant to “immediately and permanently disassociate its Teen Accounts and artificial intelligence (AI) tools from the MPA’s rating system.”
Recently, Instagram announced that its teen accounts would be restricted from seeing PG-13 content by default.
However, the MPA, which runs the film rating system (established 60 years ago), stated that before the announcement, Meta had not apprised them.
