Megan Roberts Joins Paul Hastings to Strengthen Asset-Backed Finance Platform in Chicago
Paul Hastings expands its premier Asset-Backed Finance platform with the addition of Megan Roberts as a Partner in its Chicago office, further reinforcing its top-ranked structured finance capabilities across asset classes and key financial markets.
Roberts, who joins from Sidley Austin LLP, brings significant experience advising issuers, underwriters, and investors on a broad range of asset-backed finance transactions, spanning capital markets and private securitizations, as well as acquisitions of consumer assets, including forward flows and portfolio acquisitions. Her extensive asset class experience covers student loans, unsecured consumer loans (including fintech), auto loans and leases, equipment loans and leases, trade receivables, data centers, and various other traditional and non-traditional asset types.
Frank Lopez, Chair of Paul Hastings said,
“With the number one CLO practice in the U.S. and the U.K., we have seen great strategic success expanding our market share among leading asset managers and investment banks, Megan is a premier talent whose arrival will further strengthen our platform and help us capture even greater market share.”
Roberts’ practice aligns seamlessly with Paul Hastings’ renowned structured credit and asset-backed finance platform, which is Chambers USA Band 1-ranked for CLOs and was recently recognised as the No. 1 most active Global and U.S. CLO Arranger Counsel by Creditflux for 2024. Her client roster includes marquee financial institutions and asset managers—many of whom are already Paul Hastings clients—such as Barclays, Blackstone, Bracebridge, Carlyle, and KKR, as well as Cadma Capital Partners and OneMain Finance Corporation.
Notably, Roberts represented Carlyle and KKR in the acquisition of a portfolio of prime private student loans from Discover Bank with a principal balance of approximately USD 10.1 billion. She also advised KKR’s credit funds and accounts on the purchase of a USD 7.2 billion portfolio of super-prime recreational vehicle loans from BMO Bank National Association.
Commenting on her move, Roberts said, “I’m excited to be the newest member of Paul Hastings’ leading Asset-Backed Finance team and look forward to working closely with my new colleagues to deliver sophisticated and customised financing solutions that meet our clients’ evolving needs.”
Roberts’ appointment follows a series of strategic hires that have bolstered the firm’s global structured credit practice, including partners Shawn Kodes, Matthew Nameth and John Murphy in New York, and Brian Maher in London.
