Matouk Bassiouny Promotes Mohamed Samy to Partner

Matouk Bassiouny is delighted to announce the promotion of Mohamed Samy to Partner in the firm’s Arbitration group.

With over a decade of experience, Mohamed has become a key figure in the practice, specializing in managing complex, cross-border, and high-stakes commercial and investor-state arbitrations. He has advised and represented both regional and international clients in disputes spanning various legal systems and sectors, including Egyptian, Gulf, and international law, under the auspices of numerous arbitration institutions such as ICSID, ICC, LCIA, DIAC, CRCICA, UNCITRAL, and ad hoc tribunals.

In addition to his arbitration practice, Mohamed regularly handles competition law investigations before the Egyptian Competition Authority (ECA), represents major clients in all aspects of these proceedings, and assists GCC countries’ competition authorities in reforming their competition laws. His sector expertise spans oil & gas, infrastructure, telecommunications, and construction, often involving disputes across multiple jurisdictions and complex legal frameworks.

Beyond his client work, he teaches International Economic Law at Cairo University, enriching his practice with academic depth, and holds a PhD in International Investment Law from Queen Mary University of London.

We are proud to welcome Mohamed to the partnership and look forward to his continued impact across the region and beyond.

Mohamed focuses on resolving international and domestic disputes, with expertise in oil and gas agreements, mergers and acquisitions, construction, distribution, telecommunications, international investment, private equity, hotel management, shareholders disputes, and various commercial and corporate conflicts. He also advises on annulment and enforcement proceedings of domestic and foreign arbitral awards before Egyptian courts.
