Justice Sangita Dhingra Sehgal resigns from the position of Judge of Delhi HC; set to join Delhi SCRC as President

Justice Sangita Dhingra Sehgal of the Delhi High Court has tendered her resignation from the post of Judge of the Delhi High Court. Post resignation, she would be taking charge as the President of Delhi State Consumer Redressal Commission.

The notification issued by the Department of Justice read, “Smt. Justice Sangita Dhingra Sehgal has tendered her resignation from the office of Judge, Delhi High Court, in pursuance of proviso (a) to clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution, with effect from 30th May, 2020.

Justice Sehgal had served as the Registrar General, High Court of Delhi from April 2013 to December 2014 and also worked as Registrar (Vigilance). She was elevated as an Additional Judge in December 2014 and later became a Permanent Judge in June 2016. Last year she was appointed as a member of Competition Commission of India. Being a Trained Mediator, Justice Sehgal has trained a number of lawyers at Raipur, Chandigarh, Udhampur, Ranchi, Bhubaneshwar and Aurangabad, as well as a number of judicial officers in the Sikkim Judicial Academy and the West Bengal Judicial Academy.

Justice Sehgal was a member of the Project Steering Committee (PSC) implemented by the Department of Justice, Ministry of Law and Justice, with support from United Nation Development Programme, which aimed to strengthen access to justice, particularly for women, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and minorities. Justice Sehgal obtained her LLB degree from Delhi University in 1981 and completed her LLM in 1983. She subsequently did her Ph.D. from Amity University, Noida in 2012. Justice Sehgal was the topper of her batch of 1984 in Delhi Judicial Services and joined the services in July 1985.
