Justice Prathiba Singh recuses from hearing WhatsApp Case

In a brief hearing on the 13th of January, Justice Prathiba Singh in the Delhi High Court recused herself from hearing the WhatsApp Privacy policy case. A letter sent by the WhatsApp parent company Facebook to the Court pointed out that Justice Singh had appeared in a connected matter when she was a lawyer. Taking objection to the Email, Justice Singh stated she never planned to take the case. Additional Solicitor General Chetan Sharma pushed for the case to be taken since it is a very important question of law that is being discussed. The claim made by Advocate Chaitanya Rohilla about the Privacy policy violating the Right to Privacy is a huge concern to the nation. Justice Singh ordered that the case be referred before another single-judge Bench subject to orders of the Chief Justice. Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi, who is representing WhatsApp agreed that the matter should be sent to another Single Bench.
