Hausfeld targets competition and financial services claims as it makes up four partners

In the promotion round of 2022, four attorneys, make the grade – two in the US and two in the UK.

Hausfeld, a specialist disputes firm, focuses on group action work in the area of competition and financial services. It has promoted two partners on each side of the Atlantic.

Simon Bishop and Tim Brown have been promoted in the London office while Sarah LaFreniere and Samantha Stein have made up in Washington DC and San Francisco, respectively. In comparison, two promotions were made both in London in 2021, which are now doubled.

Three lawyers have also been promoted to counsel, and seven associates have been appointed to senior positions. Promotions made by partners are largely directed at women, with 43percent of overall promotions coming from women.

In addition to the new UK and US managing partners, Lianne Craig and Melinda Coolidge, approximately 36percent of the firm’s partnership and over 40percent of its lawyers are women.

As part of a foreign exchange rigging lawsuit, Bishop, a finance litigator with five years of experience at Hausfeld, has made partner and specializes in a field that it sees as ripe for expansion. The firm is presently taking on a number of banks, including RBS and Barclays as part of a foreign exchange rigging lawsuit.

Brown, London-based colleague, specializes in cartel claims, particularly competition litigator concerned on Automotive Spare Parts. After working at Quinn Emanuel, Stewart, and spending a decade at the Bar, the employed barrister joined Hausfeld in 2019.

Having spent her entire career in Washington DC, after qualifying, competition litigation specialist LaFreniere is well known for her work on the US side of the FX antitrust litigation. She has helped recover more than $2.3 billion for her clients.

In addition, California attorney Stein was also recognized for her representation of small businesses and consumers in a number of major class actions, many of them involving antitrust issues. In addition to her years at Hausfeld, Stein works as a federal judicial clerk and has short stints at the US Federal Trade Commission.

As a result of the partner promotions, there are now 26 partners in the US and 20 partners in the London partnership.

Anthony Maton, the global co-chair, stated that the promotions highlight “the market’s recognition and support for our work and leadership across all our jurisdictions”.

Among the two lawyers promoted to partner in 2021 were Lucy Rigby and Luke Streatford based in London, while one lateral hire was Ned Beale, a litigator from Trowers & Hamlins on a lateral basis in London.

Amandine Gueret and Duran Ross are the two lawyers based in London. Düsseldorf-based lawyer Manuel Knebelsberger also serves as new counsel.

Ross and Gueret both work on the firm’s commercial disputes team in London, where Gueret advises on international competition disputes including litigation for the Truck Cartel. Gueret has dual qualified lawyers in France and England.
