Electricity Commission orders probe into GNA Energy and officials at SEBI’s behest

Alleges involvement in insider trading and market manipulation

The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) has ordered an investigation into the electricity trading platform GNA Energy and its two officials, alleging that they traded on price-sensitive information in shares and derivatives of the Indian Energy Exchange (IEX).

The CERC acted on the findings from the interim order of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).

The Commission claimed that the top executives of the country’s federal power regulator GNA Energy, had access to confidential CERC documents before a July 2025 order on market coupling was made public.

It maintained that the company may have violated provisions of power market regulations and appointed two senior officials to conduct the investigation and submit a report within 21 days.

Meanwhile, the order does not revoke GNA Energy’s registration but warns that violations could lead to suspension or cancellation of its licence.
