Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas hosts Policy Dialogue on Open Data for AI Training as Official Pre-Summit Event of the India-AI Impact Summit, 2026

The Leading Law firm in India, Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas hosted a closed-door Policy Roundtable Discussion on Open Data for AI Training in collaboration with the Cyril Shroff Center for AI, Law and Regulation, Jindal Global Law School. The event was held as an Official Pre-Summit Event of the India-AI Impact Summit, 2026, organized by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India.

The roundtable brought together a diverse group of senior government officials, leading legal practitioners, policy professionals, industry experts, and academics to deliberate on the evolving regulatory considerations for an open data sharing framework in India. The discussion was undergirded by the belief that open data sharing is the lifeblood of robust AI model training, and consequently crucial for shaping India’s AI-powered future. The session sought to foster a nuanced dialogue on practical and implementable solutions for improving data sharing practices for the training of AI systems. Participants shed light on relevant aspects such as the viability of using synthetic data, the architecture of open data environments, and the need to secure public trust through transparency and data security measures.

Mr. Arjun Goswami (Director, Public Policy, CAM) co-moderated the discussion along with Prof. Sidharth Chauhan (Director, Cyril Shroff Center for AI, Law and Regulation, Jindal Global Law School), with support from Mr. Varun Mehta (Principal Associate) and Ms. Sohini Banerjee (Principal Associate) from CAM, and Prof. Krishna Deo Singh Chauhan and Prof. Paavni Jain from the CS Center for AI, Law and Regulation, JGLS.

Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas was privileged to host Mr. Deepak Goel (Group Coordinator, Cyber Laws Division, MeitY), and Mr. Bharat Gupta, Dr. Sathyanarayanan S., and Mr. Vikash Chourasia (all from MeitY), who shared valuable insights on the government’s approach towards developing open data platforms. Further, Mr. Rohit Bhardwaj (Deputy Director General, Data Informatics and Innovation Division, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation), Ms. Alka Mishra (Ex-National Informatics Center), and Ms. Rama Vedashree (Ex-Nasscom and DSCI) provided critical inputs on data standardisation and AI democratisation. The session also featured industry representatives weighing in with expert insights.

The roundtable concluded with a shared commitment to advancing India’s AI ecosystem through open data initiatives, ensuring that innovation is balanced with ethical standards, transparency, and public trust.
