The Supreme Court Collegium had, on February 15, recommended that the five additional judges to be made permanent.
As per the Collegium resolution published on the website of the Supreme Court, the names of the five judges were recommended by the Madras High Court Collegium on November 22 for appointment as permanent judges and the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and the Governor had concurred with the recommendation.
The Madras High Court which has a sanctioned strength of 75 judges is currently functioning with 54 judges, a vacancy position of 21.
