Patna, October 6, 2025 — The Bihar Judicial Services Association (BJSA) today strongly condemned the recent disturbing incident targeting the Chief Justice of India, Hon’ble Justice B.R. Gavai, which unfolded within the premises of the Supreme Court. The Association characterized the act as “a grave assault on the dignity of the judiciary” and expressed its steadfast solidarity with the Chief Justice and the Supreme Court of India.
In an official press note issued by Ajit Kumar Singh, Secretary, BJSA, the Association stated that such behaviour is “not merely an affront to one individual, but an attack on the very foundation of the rule of law.” The BJSA called for a thorough investigation by the security and investigative agencies to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice in accordance with law.
The Association outlined several key measures that it believes should follow in the wake of the incident:
- Judicial Security Enhancement: A comprehensive review of security protocols in court premises, particularly in higher courts, to safeguard judges and maintain the sanctity of judicial proceedings.
- Unified Institutional Response: Judicial associations, bar councils, and the legal fraternity should stand together in unequivocal condemnation of any act of intimidation or violence against members of the judiciary.
- Reassurance of Public Confidence: The judiciary must continue to project independence, fearlessness, and integrity, demonstrating that justice will not be swayed by threats or coercion.
- Ensuring Legal Accountability: Strict legal action should be taken against the offenders under relevant provisions, sending a strong message that such acts will face decisive consequences.
“The independence, dignity, and security of the judiciary must be defended resolutely,” the BJSA emphasized, adding that the Association “stands firm in solidarity with the Chief Justice of India and the Supreme Court.”
The statement by BJSA comes amid widespread condemnation from across the legal community, with judicial and bar associations across the country reaffirming their support for the apex court and its leadership.
