Baker McKenzie Cairo advised AMEA Power on Egypt’s first 300 MWh BESS project

Baker McKenzie Cairo – Helmy, Hamza & Partners advised AMEA Power on the development of a 300 MWh utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Egypt.

Now operational, this fully solar PV-powered facility is the first of its kind in the country and serves as an extension to AMEA Power’s 500 MW solar PV plant in Aswan — the largest operational single-site solar PV plant in Egypt to date. The landmark project, financed by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), represents a major milestone in Egypt’s clean energy roadmap, positioning the country as a regional leader in renewable energy storage and integration.

Mohamed Elharmy commented,

“We are proud to be partnering with AMEA Power and supporting them on this revolutionary project that sets a precedent for renewable energy storage. This milestone is testament to our longstanding commitment to continue leveraging our deep sector expertise to bring complex, future-focused energy projects to fruition, and we look forward to continuing to set new benchmarks that help shape the future of the clean energy landscape in Egypt and the wider region.”

The Baker McKenzie Cairo team advising AMEA Power was led by Mohamed Elharmy, supported by Ahmed Shehata, Hania Meshref and Marah Korraa.
