
Gurugram: The School of Law, IILM University, Gurugram, in collaboration with Hidayatullah National Law University (HNLU), Raipur, successfully organised the 1st Trial Advocacy Competition from 24 to 26 September 2026. The inaugural edition witnessed participation from 50 teams from law schools across the country.
The competition was conceived to move students beyond doctrinal study and provide them with practical exposure to courtroom procedure, including examination-in-chief, cross-examination, handling of exhibits, objections, and framing persuasive arguments before a trial bench.
50 Teams Participate in Inaugural Edition
The inaugural edition drew an encouraging response, with 50 teams competing over three days. Participants were assessed on their command of evidence law and procedure, quality of witness examination, courtroom etiquette, research and memorial drafting, and overall advocacy skills.
Each round was evaluated by panels of legal practitioners and academicians, ensuring rigorous and fair assessment.

Partners Supporting the Competition
The competition was supported by several partners whose association added to the professional standing of the event. SCC Online was the Knowledge Partner, while Legal Bites was associated as the Online Media Partner. Law Bhoomi was also a partner, while SCC Times and Maheshwari & Co. were the Legal Partners.
As the Online Media Partner, Legal Bites also sponsored the sponsorship kit for the competition.
Symbiosis Law School Pune Wins 1st Trial Advocacy Competition
Symbiosis Law School, Pune, emerged as the Winner of the competition, while Maharashtra National Law University (MNLU), Mumbai, secured the Runner-Up position.
Individual Awards
The individual awards recognised distinct aspects of trial advocacy. TC 22 – Baba Mastnath University, Rohtak, received the Best Memorial award, while TC 44 – Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar, was awarded Best Speaker.
The Best Researcher award went to TC 13 – School of Law, Christ University, Bangalore. Anshika Singh, BA LLB (3rd Year), School of Law, IILM Gurugram, was recognised as the Best Witness.

IILM Gurugram Celebrates Best Witness Recognition
The School of Law, IILM Gurugram, expressed pride in the achievement of Anshika Singh, stating that her recognition as Best Witness reflects the institution’s commitment to practical legal education.
The organisers extended their sincere gratitude to HNLU, Raipur, all partners, the judges and the participating teams, and expressed their intention to host future editions on a larger scale.
