Students pursuing a three-year LL.B. or five-year integrated law programme can participate. The last date to register is October 5, 2026.

The Uttar Pradesh State Institute of Forensic Science (UPSIFS), Lucknow is a premier government institution committed to excellence in legal, forensic and interdisciplinary education. It is affiliated with the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU), Gandhinagar, and functions under the aegis of the Home Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh.
The Institute follows a unique “Law-with-Labs” approach, integrating legal education with practical forensic training.
About the Competition
The 1st UPSIFS National Moot Court Competition, 2026 is the First Edition of the National Moot Court Competition organised by the Moot Court Committee, School of Law, Forensic Justice & Policy Studies, UPSIFS.
The Competition aims to provide law students with a platform for legal research, memorial drafting and oral advocacy, while encouraging critical thinking, constructive legal discourse and practical exposure to courtroom argumentation.
The Competition will be conducted in two phases:
- Phase I: Online Preliminary Rounds
- Phase II: Offline Researcher’s Test, Quarter-Final, Semi-Final and Final Rounds at UPSIFS, Lucknow
Eligibility
- Students enrolled in either a three-year LL.B. programme or a five-year integrated law programme are eligible to participate.
- Multiple teams from the same institution are permitted, subject to submission of the prescribed No Objection Certificate (NOC).
- Students enrolled exclusively in postgraduate or diploma programmes are not eligible.
Team Composition
Each team must consist of 2 or 3 members:
- A three-member team shall have 2 Speakers + 1 Researcher.
- A two-member team shall have 2 Speakers, with one Speaker also acting as Researcher.
Mode and Location
Preliminary Rounds: Online via Microsoft Teams on October 15–16, 2026.
Researcher’s Test, Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals and Final: Offline at Uttar Pradesh State Institute of Forensic Science (UPSIFS), Lucknow, on October 30–31, 2026.
Venue: Uttar Pradesh State Institute of Forensic Science, Aurawan, P.O. Banthra, Lucknow – 226401, Uttar Pradesh.
Competition Format
Preliminary Rounds: The Preliminary Rounds will be conducted online via Microsoft Teams. Each team shall argue twice, once as Petitioner and once as Respondent. Each round shall have a total duration of 30 minutes. The Top Eight teams shall qualify for the Quarter-Finals.
Researcher’s Test: The Researcher’s Test will be conducted offline on October 30, 2026. The test consists of 50 MCQs to be completed within 30 minutes.
Quarter-Finals: The Quarter-Finals will be conducted on a knockout basis, offline at UPSIFS, Lucknow. Each round is 60 minutes.
Semi-Finals: The Semi-Finals will be conducted on a knockout basis. Each round is 90 minutes.
Final: The Final will be conducted on a knockout basis on October 31, 2026. The round is 120 minutes.
The official language of the Competition is English.
Registration Fee
The registration fee is ₹3,000 per team and covers participation in the Online Preliminary Rounds. The fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.
The top eight teams qualifying for the Quarter-Final Rounds will advance to the offline phase. Each qualifying participant shall pay an Accommodation & Hospitality Fee of ₹1,000 per person, inclusive of accommodation and meals during the Offline Phase.
