
Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) has invited online applications for recruitment to 172 posts of Assistant Public Prosecutor in Group-B of the Odisha State Prosecution Service under the Home Department. Candidates possessing a Bachelor’s Degree in Law and the prescribed experience as a practising advocate may apply online from 28 August 2026. The last date to submit the online application is 28 September 2026 (5:00 PM).
About OPSC Assistant Public Prosecutor Recruitment
The Odisha Public Service Commission has issued Advertisement No. 09 of 2026-27 for recruitment to the post of Assistant Public Prosecutor in Group-B of the Odisha State Prosecution Service under the Home Department, Government of Odisha.
The recruitment is being conducted in the scale of pay of Rs. 44,900/- in Level 10 of the Pay Matrix under ORSP Rules, 2017, along with usual Dearness Allowance and other allowances as may be sanctioned by the Government of Odisha from time to time.
Vacancies

Eligibility Criteria
- A candidate must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from a recognised University.
- The candidate must also have at least 2 years of experience as a practising Advocate.
Bar Council Registration Requirement
Candidates are required to possess and upload a Certificate of Enrolment under the Bar Council of India or State Bar Council.
Candidates are also required to submit a certificate from the concerned District & Sessions Judge regarding their experience as a practising Advocate in the prescribed format provided in Annexure-B of the advertisement.
Work Experience
Candidates must have at least 2 years of experience as a practising Advocate.
The prescribed educational qualification and eligibility requirements must be fulfilled by the closing date for submission of the registered online application form.
Proof of Work Experience
A practising Advocate must submit a certificate from the concerned District & Sessions Judge in the format prescribed in Annexure-B of the advertisement.
The certificate is required to certify that the candidate is enrolled with the Bar Council, Odisha and has been in active practice as an Advocate in the Bar of the concerned judgeship for the period stated in the certificate.
Knowledge of Odia
A candidate must be able to speak, read and write Odia and must have passed either:
- The Middle School standard language test in Odia conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Odisha; or
- The Matriculation/Class-X/10th standard examination with Odia as a subject.
Age Limit
A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not be above the age of 42 years as on 1 January 2026.
Accordingly, the candidate must have been born not earlier than 2 January 1984 and not later than 1 January 2005.
The upper age limit is relaxable by:
- 5 years for candidates belonging to SEBC, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Women and Ex-Servicemen.
- 10 years for Persons with Disabilities whose permanent disability is 40% or more.
- Persons with Disabilities belonging to the SEBC/SC/ST categories are eligible for cumulative age relaxation of 15 years.
A candidate who comes under more than one category mentioned above shall be eligible for only one benefit of upper age relaxation, which shall be considered most beneficial to him/her.
Selection Process
The selection for the post of Assistant Public Prosecutor will be conducted through the following stages:
- Preliminary Examination – 100 Marks
- Main Written Examination – 600 Marks
- Personality Test/Interview – 50 Marks
Preliminary Examination Pattern
- The Preliminary Examination will be a screening test for shortlisting candidates for the Main Written Examination.
- It will consist of one paper of Objective Type Multiple Choice Questions.
- The examination may be conducted through OMR Evaluation or Computer-Based Test (CBT), as decided by the Commission.
- Total Questions: 100
- Total Marks: 100
- Marks per Question: 1 Mark
- Negative Marking: 25% of the marks assigned to the question will be deducted for each wrong answer.
- For un-attempted questions, zero marks will be awarded.
- Duration: 2 Hours
Candidates securing qualifying marks fixed by the Commission will be admitted to the Main Written Examination, as nearly as possible but not more than 10 times the total number of vacancies to be filled through the examination.
Marks secured in the Preliminary Examination will not be counted for preparation of the final merit/select list.
Main Written Examination Pattern
- The Main Written Examination will consist of 4 papers carrying 150 marks each, for a total of 600 marks.
- The papers will be of Subjective and Descriptive Answer Type.
- The Commission will fix qualifying marks for each paper and/or in aggregate in the Written Examination.
- Candidates securing qualifying marks will be shortlisted for the Personality Test/Interview in the ratio of 1:2, subject to a minimum of 5 candidates with reference to the number of vacancies in the different categories.

Candidates shall answer the papers in English except for Translation into Odia. The papers shall be of the standard of the General English paper of Degree Course, while the other papers shall be of the standard of the LL.B. Course under University Examination.
Personality Test/Interview
The Personality Test/Interview will carry 50 marks.
Weightage in Final Merit
- Main Written Examination: 600 Marks
- Personality Test/Interview: 50 Marks
- Total: 650 Marks
The final merit list for recommendation for appointment will be prepared on the basis of the combined marks obtained in the Written Examination and Personality Test/Interview.
If two or more candidates secure equal marks in aggregate, the candidate securing higher marks in the Written Examination will be placed higher in the merit list. If the tie continues, the candidate older in age will be placed higher.
Salary
The post carries a pay of Rs. 44,900/- in Level 10 of the Pay Matrix under ORSP Rules, 2017, along with usual Dearness Allowance and other allowances as may be sanctioned by the Government of Odisha from time to time.
Application Fee
Candidates belonging to categories other than SC, ST and PwD are required to pay an examination fee of Rs. 700/- through online mode while filling the online application form.
SC, ST and PwD candidates are exempted from payment of the examination fee.
Payment of the examination fee must be made through the online payment facility provided in the application form. Applications submitted without payment of the examination fee, wherever applicable, will be treated as incomplete.
The examination fee paid will be refunded only to candidates who actually appear in the Preliminary Examination. Refund will be processed to the original mode of payment used at the time of the transaction.

- Candidates must carefully read the detailed instructions available on the OPSC portal before filling out the online application form.
- Candidates should upload the required certificates/documents in the e-Chayan portal of the Commission.
- Candidates should upload a scanned image of their latest passport-size photograph, full signature and left-hand thumb impression in accordance with the prescribed specifications.
- After successful submission of the online registration, a unique Permanent Public Service Account Number (PPSAN) will be assigned to the applicant.
