IndianOil has issued Advertisement No. IOCL/CO-HR/RECTT/2026/01 dated August 14, 2026 for recruitment of executives through a Computer Based Test (CBT). This post focuses only on the recruitment of Officer (Law) in Grade ‘A’.

Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must possess a full-time regular qualification from an institution, college, university or deemed university duly recognised by AICTE/UGC.
Candidates must possess either:
- A Graduate Degree in any discipline along with a Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB); or
- A 5-year Integrated LLB Degree.
The LLB degree must be recognised by the Bar Council of India.
Minimum Marks Required
For candidates having a Graduation Degree along with a separate LLB degree:
- General/EWS/OBC (NCL): Minimum 60% marks in Graduation and 60% marks in LLB.
- SC/ST/PwBD: Minimum 55% marks in Graduation and 55% marks in LLB.
For candidates possessing a 5-year Integrated LLB Degree:
- General/EWS/OBC (NCL): Minimum 60% marks.
- SC/ST/PwBD: Minimum 55% marks.
Qualifications acquired through part-time, correspondence, distance or online learning mode are not eligible under the recruitment notification.
Bar Council Registration Requirement
The LLB degree must be recognised by the Bar Council of India.
Candidates claiming work experience from law firms, chambers of practising advocates and/or independent legal practice will be required to produce the original registration certificate with the Bar Council at the time of document verification.
Work Experience
Candidates applying for the Law Officer post must possess at least 2 years of cumulative post-qualification professional experience as on June 30, 2026.
Only experience obtained after the date of declaration of the final Law qualification result will be counted for determining eligibility.
Experience from the following areas will be considered:
- Practice as an advocate before courts or tribunals;
- Employment with law firms;
- Employment with private or public sector organisations handling legal functions; or
- Employment with Central or State Governments handling legal functions.
Essential Work Experience Areas
Candidates should have experience of working in any of the following areas:
- Handling litigation involving Civil, Consumer and Criminal matters before different Judicial or Quasi-Judicial Forums;
- Arbitration, conciliation and other dispute resolution mechanisms; or
- Drafting and vetting various legal or contractual documents, providing legal opinions and handling legal matters including issues pertaining to Mergers, Acquisitions & Joint Ventures and regulatory matters.
Proof of Work Experience
Shortlisted candidates will have to furnish original work-experience documents issued by the respective organisation, law firm, court or Government office on its letterhead at the time of document verification.
The documents should contain:
- Name of the organisation/law firm/court/Government office;
- Work profile along with designation; and
- Period of service, specifying the dates from and to.
Lawyers practising independently in courts must furnish a record of appearances issued by the respective courts. The period between the oldest appearance and the latest appearance before June 30, 2026 will be referred to for determining the work-experience requirement.
IOCL has stated that absence of the prescribed details may result in rejection of the candidature.
Experience That Will Not Be Counted
The following will not be treated as relevant work experience:
- Internships;
- Teaching experience;
- Part-time work;
- Experience gathered as part of acquiring a qualification; and
- Short-term trainee experience, including summer or winter projects.
Desired Skills
IndianOil has mentioned the following desired skills for Law Officer candidates:
- Knowledge of applicable laws, rules and regulations;
- Excellent written and verbal communication;
- Experience in the Oil & Gas/Petrochemical Industry; and
- Ability to prepare complex legal documents.
Age Limit
The maximum permissible age for the Law Officer (Grade A) post for General/EWS candidates is 30 years as on July 1, 2026.
The prescribed born-on/after dates for Law Officer/Assistant Quality Control Officer are:
- General/EWS: July 1, 1996 for Non-PwBD and July 1, 1986 for PwBD candidates;
- OBC (NCL): July 1, 1993 for Non-PwBD and July 1, 1983 for PwBD candidates;
- SC/ST: July 1, 1991 for Non-PwBD and July 1, 1981 for PwBD candidates.
Relaxation for Ex-Servicemen and Commissioned Officers, including ECOs/SSCOs, will be as per extant Government of India guidelines.
Selection Process
The selection process will comprise:
- Computer Based Test (CBT);
- Group Discussion (GD) and Group Task (GT); and
- Personal Interview (PI).
Computer Based Test Pattern
The CBT will comprise 100 objective multiple-choice questions.
- Quantitative Aptitude: 20 questions
- Logical Reasoning: 15 questions
- Verbal Ability of English Language: 15 questions
- Domain Knowledge: 50 questions
Each question will carry 1 mark. A negative marking of 0.25 mark will apply for every incorrect answer.

Weightage in Final Merit
- Computer Based Test: 85%
- Group Discussion and Group Task: 5%
- Personal Interview: 10%
Candidates must qualify individually in the applicable components of the selection process as well as satisfy the prescribed composite-score criteria.
Nature of Work
The selected Law Officer may be required to independently undertake activities including:
- Litigation involving Civil, Consumer and Criminal matters before Judicial and Quasi-Judicial Forums, including drafting and vetting pleadings and notices and attending proceedings;
- Alternative Dispute Resolution proceedings, including drafting and vetting pleadings and notices and attending proceedings before ADR forums;
- Drafting and vetting contractual documents, agreements and notices;
- Rendering legal opinions on business issues including matters relating to Mergers, Acquisitions, Joint Ventures and regulatory matters; and
- Any other work depending upon organisational requirements.
Salary
The Law Officer is recruited in Grade ‘A’.
- Initial Basic Pay: ₹50,000 per month
- Pay Scale: ₹50,000 – ₹1,60,000
- Approximate CTC: ₹18.4 lakh per annum
In addition to basic pay, selected candidates will receive Dearness Allowance and other allowances and benefits in accordance with the rules of the Corporation.
Place of Posting
Depending upon the requirements of the Corporation, selected candidates may be posted anywhere in India, including any Section, Plant, Unit, Department or Division of the Corporation, or in an associate, subsidiary, group company, joint venture company or overseas office at the discretion of the Management.

Candidates belonging to categories other than SC/ST/PwBD are required to pay a non-refundable application fee of ₹1,000 + GST, as applicable.
