About the Recruitment

IWAI has invited applications for engagement to the post of Specialist (Legal) on a purely contractual basis. The initial period of engagement will be one year and is likely to be extended on a yearly basis subject to satisfactory performance.

Educational Qualification

The applicant must possess a Bachelor Degree in Law from a recognised University.

Experience Required

Candidates satisfying any of the following experience criteria may be considered:

  • Retired Central/State Government employees, retired PSU employees or retired IIT employees at Level 11 or above, equivalent to Deputy Director or above, having a strong understanding of handling legal matters; or
  • Individuals from Non-Government/Private/Consultancy Firms/Multinational Organisations having a minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience and familiarity with court procedures; or
  • Officers/individuals having adequate experience of working in different Courts/Legal Firms for the last 5 years and familiarity with court procedures.

In the case of a deserving candidate who is otherwise well qualified to handle legal matters, relaxation in experience may be considered subject to approval of the Competent Authority in IWAI.

Preference

Preference will be given to practising lawyers having experience in handling legal matters and working knowledge of computers.

Competencies Required

  • In-depth knowledge of legal systems and structures.

  • Strong understanding of property rights and laws, contract negotiations, corporate law and real estate law including construction.

  • Sound understanding of legal ethics.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong planning, organisational and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in Hindi and English.
  • Working knowledge of computers.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • The Specialist (Legal) will be responsible for handling litigation work of IWAI and providing legal assistance in preparation of legal opinions, studies, reports and correspondence. The selected candidate will supervise and monitor cases pending before District Courts, High Courts and the Supreme Court and coordinate the functioning of the Legal Cell.
  • The role also involves dealing with matters relating to civil law, criminal law, arbitration, land acquisition, consumer disputes, labour and industrial matters, tribunals, Central Information Commission proceedings, civil miscellaneous applications, Division Bench appeals and other legal matters.
  • The Specialist will coordinate with Heads of Departments and Regional Offices on legal matters, provide legal advice on substantive and procedural questions arising from IWAI’s administrative functioning, scrutinise remarks, counter affidavits and affidavits, and vet Rules, Regulations, Deeds and Notifications.
  • The selected candidate will also monitor empanelled counsels and law firms, coordinate between IWAI and advocates/law firms, assist in empanelment of new law firms/advocates, process professional fee bills and review tender documents.
  • The role further includes reviewing ongoing cases, advising management on legal risks and appropriate courses of action, providing legal protection and risk-management advice, particularly in relation to contract management, and communicating applicable legal requirements to IWAI officials.

Salary / Remuneration

For candidates from Non-Government/Private/Consultancy Firms/Multinational Organisations, the fixed remuneration will be:

  • Rs. 70,000 – Rs. 90,000 per month
  • For retired Central/State Government, PSU employees and retired IIT employees, remuneration will be based on last pay drawn minus pension plus entitled allowance.
  • For retired employees in IDA scales re-engaged as Specialist, monthly remuneration will be calculated at 50% of the basic pay drawn where no pension is drawn, or last basic pay minus pension where pension is drawn.

Transport Allowance

The Specialist will be eligible for a fixed Transport Allowance of up to Rs. 3,600 per month for commuting between residence and the place of work.

Age Limit

The prescribed age limit is:

  • Minimum Age: 25 years
  • Maximum Age: 63 years

The age will be calculated as on the closing date/last date for receipt of applications.

Place of Work

The engagement is at the IWAI Head Office, Noida, Uttar Pradesh.

Nature and Duration of Engagement

The engagement will be on a purely contractual basis, initially for a period of one year, likely to be extended on a yearly basis subject to satisfactory performance.

The engagement will ordinarily be on a full-time basis, and the person engaged will not be permitted to undertake any other assignment during the period of engagement with IWAI.

Working Hours

The working hours will be from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM at IWAI Head Office, Noida, for five days a week during working days, including a half-hour lunch break.

The Specialist may also be required to attend office on holidays in case of exigencies of work.

Leave

The selected individual will be eligible for 18 days of leave in a calendar year on a pro-rata basis. Unavailed leave cannot be carried forward to the next calendar year.
