Eligibility Criteria
The applicant must be a professional law graduate with extensive experience in handling legal matters relating to government organisations, government undertakings, service matters, labour laws and land laws.
The candidate should also possess experience in liaising with Public Sector Undertakings and Central or State Government offices and should have hands-on experience in drafting and vetting legal documents.
Educational Qualification
The minimum required qualification is an LLB degree.
Experience
- A minimum of five years of experience in dealing with legal matters in the Government of India, Public Sector Undertakings, companies or similar entities.
- The candidate should have an excellent command of English.
- Proficiency in Hindi will be preferred.
- Practising advocates with a proven track record may also be considered for engagement on a retainership basis.
Job Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the Legal Officer will include the following:
- Developing and implementing an effective legal compliance system for the Institute.
- Preventing and addressing violations of civil laws and enactments relating to employee services.
- Handling matters before courts and quasi-judicial bodies.
- Maintaining consistency in the Institute’s internal policies and processes.
- Collaborating with the concerned offices in matters relating to the Board and statutory compliance.
- Reviewing internal controls and ensuring adherence to them.
- Providing support to the Internal Committee and the D&I Grievances Committee.
- Ensuring compliance with the Right to Information framework and statutes such as the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act.
- Incorporating amendments approved by the Board of Governors into the Service Rules and Regulations.
- Updating the Service Rules and Regulations from time to time.
- Liaising with external advocates and providing updates to the senior management regarding pending legal cases.
- Preparing legal opinions on institutional issues involving the interpretation and application of regulations, rules, policies and procedures.
- Performing any other relevant duties assigned by the competent authority.

Age Limit
The candidate should preferably be below 60 years of age.
Reporting Authority
The Legal Officer will report to the Chief Administrative Officer or any other official authorised by the Director.
Selection Process
The selection for the contractual position will ordinarily be based on a personal interview.
In case a large number of applications are received, IIM Sirmaur may shortlist candidates for the interview through a written test or by adopting any other appropriate criteria.
Application Fee
Candidates are required to pay a non-refundable application processing fee of Rs. 1,200 through the online payment gateway.
Candidates belonging to the SC, ST and PwD categories, as well as women candidates, are exempted from paying the application fee.

Important Instructions
- The applicant must be a citizen of India.
- Candidates must fulfil all eligibility requirements as on the last date for submitting the online application.
- Merely fulfilling the minimum qualification and experience requirements does not entitle a candidate to be called for an interview.
- Part-time and daily-wage experience will not be counted while calculating valid experience for shortlisting.
- Candidates already employed in government departments, PSUs or autonomous organisations must produce a No Objection Certificate at the appropriate stage.
- Applications that are incomplete, unsupported by the required documents or received after the deadline will be rejected.
