About CNLU
Chanakya National Law University (CNLU) was established in 2006 with the aspiration of serving society by disseminating high-quality legal education and legal awareness.
The University has garnered a pan-India reputation as an institution for legal research and education. About the Competition
The CNLU-CARCIL National Deal Negotiation Competition on FinTech Laws, 2026, is being organised as part of the CNLU-CARCIL National Corporate Fest (CNCF’26).
The competition is a practice-oriented initiative aimed at equipping participants with essential negotiation and transactional skills within the rapidly evolving fintech landscape.
It is designed to simulate real-world commercial negotiations at the intersection of finance, technology and law, enabling participants to engage with contemporary transactional challenges.
Participants will be assessed on their negotiation skills, commercial awareness, legal reasoning and adaptability in dynamic transactional settings. Prizes and other recognitions will be awarded.
Team Structure
Each team must comprise two members who will assume distinct and fixed roles mirroring the key participants in an actual deal negotiation proceeding:
- One member will act as the Client.
- The other member will act as the Counsel.
Participants must strictly adhere to the responsibilities and limitations of their assigned roles throughout all rounds of the competition.
Structure of the Competition
The competition will be conducted in the following three stages:
Stage I: Negotiation Plan Submission
Teams must submit a negotiation strategy or preliminary deal brief within the prescribed timeline, along with the initial registration fee.
Stage II: Preliminary Negotiation Round (Virtual)
Based on the evaluation of the Stage I submissions, the top 24 teams will qualify for the virtual preliminary negotiation rounds.
Stage III: Quarter-Final and Final Rounds (On-Campus)
The top eight teams will advance to the on-campus stage, where participants will engage in live negotiation rounds involving complex, real-world-inspired fintech transactions.
The offline rounds are scheduled to be conducted on September 5, 2026.
Eligibility
The competition is open to:
- Students pursuing a full-time three-year or five-year LL.B. programme from a university recognised by the Bar Council of India or the relevant statutory authority.
- Students enrolled in LL.M. programmes at recognised universities duly accredited by the University Grants Commission.
- Undergraduate or postgraduate students pursuing Finance, Management, Economics or allied disciplines from recognised universities.

Registration Fee
- At the time of final registration and submission of the Negotiation Plan: Rs. 2,000 per team.
- After qualifying for the Preliminary Negotiation Round as one of the top 24 teams: Rs. 3,000 per team.

- Release of problem statement and commencement of final registration: July 5, 2026.
- Last date for submitting clarifications: July 14, 2026.
