Gurugram Court Fire Disrupts Proceedings; Urgent Matters Shifted, No Adverse Orders Today

A major fire at the record room of the Gurugram Court complex has caused extensive damage, severely disrupting court functioning and triggering emergency administrative measures.

According to available information, the fire has reportedly destroyed records of decided cases spanning nearly 60 years, raising serious concerns over the loss of crucial judicial documents. The blaze also spread to one existing courtroom and two file rooms, causing widespread structural damage. Reports indicate that the fire was still being battled at the time of the latest updates, with nearly 90% of the affected structure reportedly damaged.

Following the incident, the district administration imposed temporary restrictions to facilitate police investigation, forensic examination, and debris removal.

As per the official notice, all gates of the Gurugram Court premises remain closed on 25 May 2026, with entry restricted to administrative and judicial officers only.

However, advocates with bail matters or other urgent cases listed before courts functioning in the main building may proceed with their matters after lunch at the PWD Rest House, where urgent proceedings will be accommodated.

The administration has also clarified that advocates who do not wish to appear today need not do so, as their matters will be adjourned and fresh dates assigned. Importantly, no adverse order will be passed in any matter due to non-appearance.

The administration has requested advocate colleagues to prioritise safety and return home unless their physical presence is necessary. Media personnel and the public have also been urged to cooperate fully, as the situation remains under active investigation.
