Sony Pictures Networks India Promotes Rupen Thakkar as Vice President and Head Counsel
Rupen Thakkar has been elevated to the role of Vice President and Head Counsel – Networks (Television and Sony Sports Network), StudioNext and Corporate at Sony Pictures Networks India. He announced the development on his social media, expressing enthusiasm about beginning a new chapter in his professional journey.

Rupen Thakkar is a seasoned legal and compliance professional with more than 17 years of experience across the media, sports, EdTech, IT, finance, and infrastructure sectors. His expertise spans legal support, intellectual property rights, corporate and business affairs, transactional advisory, compliance, commercial contracts, in-house legal functions, cross-border transactions, and international laws.
He has been associated with Sony Pictures Networks India for over three years, holding multiple leadership roles within the legal function. Prior to his elevation, he served as Senior Lead Counsel – Sports Television & Corporate. Earlier, he held positions including Senior Lead Counsel – Network Channels Production & StudioNext and Lead Counsel – Network Channels Production & StudioNext.
Before joining Sony Pictures Networks India, he worked as AVP Legal at Unacademy and previously served as AVP Legal – Television and Zee5 at Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited. His earlier stints include leadership roles at IndiaCast Media, Sahara India, Overseas Infrastructure Alliance (India) Pvt Ltd, and Nimbus Communications Limited.
Academically, Rupen Thakkar holds a Master of Business Laws from National Law School of India University, an LL.B. degree from Jitendra Chauhan College Of Law, a Bachelor of Commerce degree from H.R. College Of Commerce & Economics, and is also a qualified Company Secretary from The Institute of Company Secretaries of India.
With his extensive experience across the media and entertainment ecosystem, Rupen Thakkar is expected to play a pivotal role in strengthening the legal and corporate framework at Sony Pictures Networks India. His elevation reflects the company’s confidence in his leadership capabilities and deep understanding of the evolving media, sports, and broadcasting landscape.
