
15th November 2025, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh — Dharmashastra National Law University (DNLU), Jabalpur, marked the occasion of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas with a vibrant celebration highlighting indigenous culture, tribal heritage, and the enduring legacy of freedom fighter Bhagwan Birsa Munda. The event was organized by the Centre for Studies in Tribal & Indigenous Communities (CSTIC) under the esteemed guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Manoj Kumar Sinha, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of DNLU, and Dr. Praveen Tripathi, Registrar.
The ceremony served as a platform to amplify conversations around the Indian Knowledge System and Indigenous Knowledge Systems, with a special focus on land rights and the pressing need for land reforms. In his address, Dr. Praveen Tripathi encouraged students to adopt well-informed and research-oriented perspectives on these critical issues affecting tribal communities.
The event’s Chief Guest, Shri Dayaram Kumre, Additional District & Sessions Judge, shared his valuable insights on legal interpretation and emphasized the importance of developing independent and reasoned viewpoints—an essential skill for future legal practitioners.
The programme was efficiently coordinated by Dr. Jalaj Goantiya and Dr. Amit Kumar Mishra, Faculty Advisors of CSTIC. The student organising committee, led by Student Advisor Mr. Rishabh Bharti, showcased exemplary teamwork with Ms. Mayuri Tumdam serving as Convenor, and Mr. Parakram Thakur and Ms. Gungun Ajay Khursel as Co-Convenors.
Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas is observed annually across India to commemorate the contributions of tribal freedom fighters and celebrate the culture and heritage of indigenous communities. At DNLU, this celebration was not just a tribute to Bhagwan Birsa Munda but an insightful discussion on the role of tribal knowledge and traditional practices in modern society and law.
The event underscored DNLU’s commitment to promoting inclusive education and creating meaningful spaces for dialogues on tribal rights, indigenous knowledge systems, and social justice.
