Webinar on the U.S.–India FTA and Beyond: Trade Policy Challenges to Affordable Medicines (July 8, 2025)

As India and the United States move closer to finalising a Free Trade Agreement (U.S.-India FTA), there is growing concern about its potential impact on access to medicines. Free Trade Agreements often go beyond WTO obligations, introducing stricter intellectual property rules, investment protections, and tariff changes that can restrict generic competition and delay access to affordable medicines, especially in countries like India.

This webinar will focus on the implications of the proposed U.S.-India FTA for public health, pharmaceutical regulation, and medicine pricing. It will also consider how recent shifts in global trade policy, including tariffs and bilateral deals, are reshaping the broader pharmaceutical landscape.

Bringing together experts from trade, health policy, industry, and civil society, the discussion aims to assess the likely impact of the U.S.-India FTA on the pharmaceutical industry, access to medicines in India, and beyond.
