Cambodian Minister Dith Tina Emphasizes IP Registration
Urges more development and value-added processing to increase the country’s agricultural products
Dith Tina, Cambodia’s Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, has emphasized the significance of intellectual property (IP) registration in raising the value of Cambodian agricultural goods.
He was speaking at the extended celebrations of World Intellectual Property Day 2025 held in Siem Reap on 5 May.
The program was held under ‘IP and Music: Feel the Beat of IP’ theme.
It was presided over by Cham Nimul, Minister of Commerce and chairperson of the National Committee for Intellectual Property.
Others who participated included Hem Vanndy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation; and Igor Driesmans, European Union’s ambassador to Cambodia.
The minister for agriculture conveyed his gratitude to the commerce ministry for organizing the event. He pointed out that it contributed to a global increase in public understanding of the IP rights.
Adding that the ministry prioritized IP, especially in the agricultural industry, he conveyed, “In addition to increasing the added value of our agricultural products, registering IP for Cambodian plant varieties can also promote local processing and branding.”
He acknowledged the development partners for their assistance in promoting and safeguarding Cambodian agricultural products, especially geographically indicated goods, including Koh Trong pomelo, Kampot pepper and Kampong Speu palm sugar.
Dith Tina urged more development and value-added processing to increase the country’s agricultural products.
