After a furor on social media platforms, the Commerce Minister has clarified that the seat of the CGPDTM is being shifted from Mumbai to New Delhi. After the move, the Mumbai office will still have the existing regional trademark and patent offices. Leaving the political banter behind this announcement aside, it is worrisome that such important announcements are made over social media platforms instead of the official website. The document about this move, which is being flouted around in social media is in addition to another office letter of September 2024 and seeks a response on the renovation that is being carried out in the Delhi office. Interestingly, a few months back, in a comment on one of Tejaswini’s posts, an anonymous reader raised pressing questions on the closing of a newly constructed building, the tender process, officials not having seats, accessibility concerns, legitimacy of transfers, etc. Although we are yet to confirm the authenticity of the specific allegations there, the above letter does confirm that there are renovations underway in the Delhi Office. Hopefully, if these issues with the infrastructure of the office are true, then these renovations could address them.
With the details about the deadline, expenses, etc. still scant, we hope that some clarification is issued by the Office disclosing the necessary details about the money spent by the exchequer and also other information to ensure that the least inconvenience is caused to the applicants.
